    Clamping

Is there a law that protects motorist from clamping, both with private and public firms?

    Hi SRBINNS,

    Thanks for your post.

There are specific regulations that must be followed by clamping firms when clamping vehicles. There are separate regulations depending on whether the vehicle is parked on private or public land.

If your vehicle is clamped in violation of these regulations, you may be able to claim your money back through the courts. In addition, in some circumstances it may be necessary to call the police. For example, if your vehicle is clamped by an unlicensed clamping firm, this is a criminal offence.

It may be worth asking a solicitor to look into your case if you believe your vehicle should not have been clamped and you want your money back.

    Good Luck
