your son was the suspect friend that is why they banged house for the search, did they harm anything or make something financially damaged you can report it.
Hi , Thank you in advance for your help. Around 4am in the morning a group of armed police officers were banging on my sons door and searched his flat without a warrant. They were looking for a person that stabbed someone not far from where my son lives. My son was in shock as he was waken up and later in the day informed me what happened. I told my son they had no legal right to come in the house and search it without good cause, as he was not a suspect and a warrant. What are his rights in this instance? Can he make a legal complaint?

A complaint against the police costs nothing, You (He) would have nothing to loose in making a complaint. The complaint would normally be put briefly to a senior officer first, usually an inspector or chief inspector, the complaint would then usually be investigated by one of the highest ranking officers in the force, often an assistant / deputy Chief Constable. I'm presuming the Police did not find the suspect . Your (your son's) case would be one, i suspect excessive force. If however they were chasing their suspect and saw him enter your sons home ( or possibly if some told them he had ) you would have no real prospect of success, Compensation in these cases are not massive amounts.
