Is this High Court backed ruling, in effect, now precedent and still current ?

Hi iconit,

Thanks for your post. The High Court backed ruling of 19 May 2011 regarding the case R (Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police) v. Salford Magistrates’ Court and Paul Hookway has been superseded by the revised Police (Detention and Bail) Act 2011, which received Royal Assent on 12 July.

The new legislation acts retrospectively in that it is deemed always to have had effect, despite the Salford ruling.
