Hi,

I am currently trying to get divorced with my husband but, from my limited knowledge of blackmail, he seems to be blackmailing me. To summarise, he cheated on me and I found out, he then left our family and the country for the other women, and is currently having an affair with her. I filed for divorce but as he sees women as inferior to men, he said that he should be able to have an affair and still remained married, and yet I would not be able to do the same if I wanted to.

When he received a legal letter from my solicitor about the divorce, he contacted me and started threatening that he would report things that I did that I might legally get in trouble for if I go ahead with the divorce - no one is perfect and he is threatening to report my imperfections if I go ahead with the divorce.

My question is the following, since he is threatening that if I get the divorce, he will divulge information about me that could get me in trouble, is his behaviour of what seems to me to be blackmail illegal? If it is, would I still get in trouble for the minor illegal things I did?
