How do I move out at 16?
I'm 16 and I want to live alone/move out of the house I am currently in. I know this legal in the UK.
My mother passed away last year and I am currently living with my guardians. I was left a lot of realestate and enough money to live by myself until I start working (I am currently in sixth form, doing my a-levels). Financially it isn't a problem. In terms of education I would have no trouble convincing my guardians that I would do just as well without them. In terms of domestic day to day life I haven't yet figured out how to prove to my guardians that I can work independantly. However my biggest problem is that they refuse to let me live on my own and wish there to be someone 18+ there all the time. (Even though I do own the property I want to move into I do not have control over it until I am of age, my guardians handle my accounts/rent out the properties. Therefore I can't make decisions on who lives there, even though it's technically in my name.)
Any suggestions on how I can acheive my goal or ultimately speed up the process? I would appreciate any useful advice.
At 16 to live on your own you need your parent or guardian's permission. If you leave home without their permission, you could be reported to the police as a missing person and be brought home if you are considered 'at risk'.
Presumably that means if you were to leave without permission and were reported but you could show that you are financially and emotionally stable, you wouldn't be forced back home.
However, do you really want to cause that kind of tension with your guardians? Best bet is to talk it through with them maturely and prove that you are responsible enough to be on your own.
Alternatively, do you have any trustworthy friends aged over 18 you wouldn't mind living with? They could be your tenant!
