Thanks for your post. Just want to check that you are in the UK? (From your spelling of mom - thought you might be American).
You say your grandfather left something for your mother, was this in a will? If so, your mother should be able to claim it. The executor of the will has a legal responsibility to carry out the wishes in the will of the deceased.
If there is no will you may want to make an inheritance dispute claim. There have been previous cases in which DNA testing was used to prove paternity and therefore entitlement to inherit.
