    POST-STUDY work visa

    Hi Findlaw team,

I am a PhD student (in 4th year) and my student visa has been issued in Nov 2008. My main consideration to study PhD in the UK is the post-study work visa. There was not even a clue of PSW abolition then.
I think it is really unfair to scrap PSW route without considering the students that are already in the UK on a long-term course like PhD.

Unfortunately, I may get my PhD results only after the PSW closure date (6 April 2012). My question is: is there anyway I can proceed legally stating my situation?

I am aware of the new Tier 2 route, but it is again a trial and error.

And since the UKBA website says old rules apply to the students with visa older than Mar 2009, can I still be able to fight legally for a PSW after that route expires?

Hope you help me. Thank you.

Hi I would suggest you contact the following body for further assistance:

UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA)
    9-17 St Alban’s Place
    London
    N1 ONX
    Tel: 020 7288 4330 (administration only)
    Fax: 020 7288 4360

UKCISA campaigns on behalf of foreign students and produces a number of very useful booklets on students’ problems. Individual international students looking for advice should consult their local NUS office (contactable through NUS headquarters). In an emergency, you may ring UKCISA on the Student Advice Line: 020 7107 9922 (Mon-Fri, 1.00-4.00pm).
