Hi, this may seem a little trivial, however I feel on principal I would like to know my rights. A friend of 20 years found my jacket in her car after we had been out for the day together. This was back in March/April. I thought I'd lost it until I saw her next and she said she had found it in her car. We casually agreed that I would 'pop in' at some point and pick it up. I've seen her on and off since then, including communication by text regarding other things, however I forgot to call in to collect it (she lives just a few minutes away). Now, six months on she informs me that she has 'given it away to charity' and that it was my responsibility to collect it. This friend is an avid ebayer and car booter, and on principal never gives to charity, so I know she has sold it. This was a smart tailored jacket worth around £75 and I'm shocked that she did this, not just because of our long-standing friendship but also as it would have been so easy to remind me to collect it. Do I have any rights? She has refused to compensate me and says the onus was completely on me to collect it.
