    Opening post

What is the legal stance on opening other peoples mail.
This has happened to me more than once where it was obvious that the mail was tampered with.
Can I get the person responsible arrested and prosecuted for it if proven?

    Hi lawnotes_4844,

Thanks for your post. It is illegal to open other people's post if that person intends to act to another's detriment. Read this article Can someone else open my post? for further details.

There are few convictions for tampering with post because it is so difficult to prove. Have you tried speaking to your postman or local post office?

    Good luck,

Can u advise me: I had some post delivered to my previous work address, I write to the companies and told them I was no lnger at that address, they continued sending post there which has been opened by someone and only forwarded to me this week, the post is dated early 2010 onwards and I now find I have bills so overdue legal action has been threatened. Does this withholding my post, opening it and being aware of what was in it constitute a legal offence?
